Registry of Merit
The North American Clun Forest Association puts a premium on strong maternal traits in our breed. While our sheep are not bred for the show ring, they are bred to produce. Very early in its history, the NACFA established two rules to that end: 1) no single-born ram lamb may be registered and 2) a Registry of Merit for ewes.
The Registry of Merit is open to qualified ewes. To qualify, a ewe must have: a) lambed without assistance, and b) have raised to at least 60 days, 6 or more lambs by the time she is 4 1/2 years old. A ewe’s lambs must have been registered or recorded in the year of birth in order to be applied to her record. Any lamb born of the qualifying ewe, including single-born ram lambs or cross-bred lambs may be recorded for ROM purposes only.
To enroll any ewe under 5 years into the ROM system, or to add lambs to an existing ewe’s record, please use the Online ROM Application.
